A protest convention organised by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the city on Saturday alleged that there was a ‘covert attempt’ by some United Democratic Font (UDF) leaders to malign Kozhikode Mayor A.K. Premajam following a ‘suicide attempt’ by councillor C.S. Sathyabhama.
Former Mayor M. Bhaskaran, who opened the protest meet, said the propagation against Ms. Premajam was part of a ‘political drama’ which no one would believe. Mr. Bhaskaran said a section of the media too was part of the propaganda against the Mayor.
“Isolating a people’s representative in the guise of an issue in which she was hardly involved is not fair,” he added.
Addressing the meeting, Ms. Premajam said she had never ignored any of the proposals made by the councillors. “I treated Ms. Sathyabhama as my sister. I had never looked into anyone’s political affiliation while considering developmental issues,” she said.
Some of the LDF leaders who addressed the protest meet said the UDF leaders were trying to manipulate facts for cheap popularity.
The councillor who attempted suicide should be advised to adopt proper protest measures and not to resort to unlawful means, they demanded.
