LDF hartal in Kozhikode today

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has called for a hartal in Koyilandy and Vadakara Assembly segments on Thursday in protest against the police action against local people who had held a demonstration against the survey for development of the National Highway on Wednesday.

Vehicles have been exempted from the 12-hour hartal that would begin at 6 a.m., LDF district convener Mukkam Muhammed, said while giving the hartal call.

He also demanded that the State government stop all work, including the survey for NH development, until rehabilitation packages acceptable to the people affected was decided and adequate compensation promised for business establishments, houses, and farmlands that would be taken over for road development.
