The District Kudumbasree Mission is planning to enrol more coastal families on its neighbourhood groups within the city Corporation limit with a mission to extend them the benefit of the National Livelihood Mission.
As per an official list prepared by the Mission, over 600 new neighbourhood groups will be formed within the corporation limit in two weeks.
The enrolment process is now in progress under the leadership of three Community Development Societies. At present, these three societies have a total strength of over 2,000 neighbourhood groups.
According to District Kudumbasree Mission coordinators, over 32,000 families are now part of the neighbourhood groups and its activities in the Corporation limit.
“On completion of the new enrolment drive, we hope to add 13,000 more families and thus cover the target of 45,000 family memberships,” they say.
The new move is also part of a formal decision of the city Corporation to achieve 100 per cent enrolment of women in neighbourhood groups under its limit.
On May 15, a formal declaration in this regard will be made in the city in presence of Ministers.
The Kerala Social Security Mission too will team up with the Corporation authorities to strengthen a few charitable schemes aimed at the welfare of backward community members in the neighbourhood groups.
“Jeevanam”, the cancer treatment project initiated by the Corporation and the Kudumbasree Mission, will be expanded further to the grassroots level through the new alliance.
