KSSP’s fair stresses on energy tips

September 01, 2014 10:15 am | Updated 10:15 am IST - Kozhikode:

Energy saving products such as LED lamps and ‘ Choodarapetty ,’ a box that saves thermal energy while cooking rice, are some of the key attraction of the Onam fair being organised under the Kerala Sastra Sahithya Parishad (KSSP), at the Muthalakkulam grounds here.

This is besides a range of recent books useful for developing a scientific temper and nurturing a progressive outlook on life displayed at the fair. A variety of household cleaning products, including low-coast hand-wash, phenyl, and soaps developed and marketed by the science movement, are also exhibited.

While the LED lamps, which offers one year warranty and other maintenance schemes, are assembled by the members of Niravu Vengeri , a progressive residential forum that works in collaboration with Parishad, the products like Choodarapetty and mini biogas plant are developed and marketed by the KSSP itself.

Sought after

Choodarapetty is one of our much sought-after products,” says K. Prabhakaran, district president of Parishad.

The fair also has a large number of books on varying topics by almost all leading publishers in Malayalam.

Titles such as the Parishad’s own series ‘Sasthra Kauthukam ,’ and ‘Enthukondu,’ the 28 edition of which was out recently, are some of the favourites, according to M. Ramadasan, who is one among those who maintain the stall. Malayalam translation of the famous English non-fiction title ‘A Sand County Almanac,’ which advocates the need for a responsible relationship between man and the land he inhabits also moves well, says Mr. Ramdas.

Malayalam translation of the famous Japanese children’s book ‘Totto-chan- the Little Girl at the Window’ by television personality and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Tetsuko Kuroyanagi, recently published Prakrithiyum Manushyanum by K.N. Ganesh, and an anthology of essays ‘ Sasthravum Kapadasasthravum ’ published by the Parishad, are some of the other fast moving books at the fair. A discount of 10 per cent is given on all titles.
