Workers affiliated to the Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) will launch a two-day strike from Monday demanding the speedy implementation of salary revision and the withdrawal of “anti-people financial reforms” in the banking sector.
State bank unions said they would support the protest of the bank staff. The nation-wide strike would draw the participation of over 10 lakh bank employees and affect all the clearing works in the banks.
E. Devadasan, district secretary of BEFI, said in a communication here on Sunday that the strike was planned, as the government ignored the frequent demands of the organisation on the two issues they were protesting over. “A token strike held on December 18, 2013, too, evoked no response,’ he alleged.
The association leader also said the BEFI had postponed its strikes twice taking into account the request of Central Labour Commissioner. “But, there was no positive move thereafter from his side to address the concerns, he said.
On Monday, the workers would also stage a dharna in front of the main branch of State Bank of India in Kozhikode.
