Kozhikode to host world quizzing contest

: The World Quizzing Championship (WQC), held simultaneously across the world by London-based International Quizzing Association (IQA) to determine official world rankings of quizzers, will be conducted at the Malabar Christian College in Kozhikode at 3.30 p.m. on June 4.

Kozhikode is the only venue in Kerala to host the event, Snehaj Srinivas, Director (Kerala) of IQA, said in a release on Thursday.

As many as 240 questions will have to be answered in two hours. In addition to the State winner, there will be awards for winners from schools, colleges and for exclusive women’s category.

The WQC will be held on the first day of the three-day annual quiz festival, Reverberate.

The 10th edition of Reverberate will have 12 quizzing events spread over June 4, 5 and 6.

Schedule

June 4 : Kunji Ramayanam — a sub-junior quiz for students of class 8 and below; Enthiran — an open general science quiz; Double Barrel — a junior quiz for students of class 12 and below; Chak De India — an open general sports quiz.

June 5: Himasagar Express — an India quiz; Polandil Enthu Sambhavichu — a general open quiz; Pacha Malayalam — the Kerala quiz; and I Am The Answer — an individual written quiz.

June 6 : Sthanarthi Saramma — a women’s quiz; Bobanum Moliyum — a couples’ quiz; Action Hero Biju — a mini college quiz; American Junction — a quiz based on places mentioned in Malayalam movies.

Participants can compete in teams of two members each in all these events. The couples’ quiz requires a team comprising a man and a woman. Prizes worth Rs.3 lakh await the winners.

The quiz festival is jointly hosted by Quiz Kerala and the District Administration of Kozhikode, along with Malabar Christian College.

Registrations have begun, and will be open till June 2.
