Kozhikode sex racket: new police team starts inquiry

A newly formed team led by Additional Director-General of Police (Armed Forces Battalion) B. Sandhya began investigation into the alleged sex racket that operated in rural areas of the district.

The team collected evidence from the victims, their relatives, and also the family members of those arrested in connection with the case.

The case related to a complaint filed by a 16-year-old girl that she was a victim of a nine-member sex racket operating at Peruvannamoozhi and Pantheerikkara in the district. Statements of some students were also collected on Thursday.

This gang was also allegedly behind the mysterious death of a Class X student of her school recently. The police had then closed the case as a suicide. Earlier, Jaison K. Abraham, DySP (Thamarassery), who investigated the case, had arrested seven persons. Two of them were arrested after deportation from Qatar. The investigators also collected evidence from Mr. Abraham. Superintendent of Police R. Nishadini, and Deputy Superintendents of Police M.P. Mohanachandran and M.K. Gopalakrishnan are part of the team. Home Department formed the team after the families of the victims submitted a memorandum to Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan.
