One hundred school students and 50 teachers attended a seminar on water organised by the Centre for Water Resources Management and Development (CWRDM) here on Wednesday.
The programme, organised in collaboration with the National Green Corps, was aimed at creating awareness of various aspects of water and its increasing preciousness in the changing times, said the organisers in a release here.
Organised in the backdrop of the U.N.’s observance of 2013 as International Year for Water Cooperation, the seminar discussed a variety of issues connected with water including water conservation, water resources management, biodiversity and water, protection of wetlands, conservation of sacred groves and ponds besides the role of rainwater harvesting in the maintenance of water quality.
A visit to the water testing laboratories and the water museum at the CWRDM besides an interaction of students with water scientists were also part of the seminar.
Inaugurating the programme, deputy mayor P.T. Abdul Latheef stressed the importance of water literacy.
CWRDM executive director N.B. Narasimha Prasad presided over the programme. Scientists P.S. Harikumar and Madhavan Komath, and NGC coordinator M.A. Johnson spoke.
