Minister for Social Welfare and Panchayats M.K. Muneer has said the MLAs of all Legislative constituencies in the district should convene a meeting of grama panchayat presidents under their jurisdiction to evaluate the situation of communicable diseases.

Speaking at a meeting on prevention of diseases during monsoon here on Sunday, he said 300 wards in the district had not convened any meeting of their sanitation committees so far. He directed all ward councillors to convene the meetings in their respective wards to tackle the fever situation.

Sanitation activities

Mayor A.K. Premajam said many sanitation activities could not be undertaken due to lack of funds. District panchayat president Kanathil Jameela also cited the same problem. Dr. Muneer promised to inform the Minister concerned about the issue. He advised the local bodies to use the funds for cleaning the drains regularly, and not to delay using them.

He also advised them to purchase fogging machines to stop mosquitoes from breeding.
