The telecommunication wing of the Police Department has completed its field study in the district as part of introducing an exclusive wireless network for the Excise Department.
The project is part of a modernisation drive, planned by the Excise Department in 2011, which will ensure wireless coverage for five selected districts in the first phase.
According to officials from the Excise Department, the State government will invest Rs.1.10 crore for the new facility across the State.
Area under coverageIn Kozhikode district, three circle offices and nine Excise range offices will be brought under wireless coverage, which will ensure safe and uninterrupted communication among the officers on duty.
Assistant Excise Commissioner P.K. Suresh said the telecommunication wing from the Police Department, which was assigned to conduct the field study over the feasibility of the project across the State, had already checked the technological sides for implementation.
“The scientific study was conducted by a three-member team headed by a sub inspector from the telecommunication department,” he added.
Study reportMr. Suresh said the study report, with comprehensive details on the required number of wireless stations, needed frequency and receiving capacity. The report had already been forwarded for the consideration of the Finance Department. “We hope that it will get nod at the earliest,” he said.
With the introduction of exclusive wireless facility, the overdependence of the department on private mobile networks would be reduced to a large extent.
In the same way, details on various enforcement drives and flash checking would be communicated only through the wireless network, which would reduce chances of information leakage.
