As part of the district-level observance of World Museum Day, the Kerala Institute for Research Training and Development Studies of Scheduled Castes and Tribes (KIRTADS) on Friday honoured tribal community members who have proved their skills in various fields and others who have made commendable contributions for the empowerment of the community.

Well-known carpenter Kalan, traditional farmer Cheruvayal Raman, tribal chieftain Kelu were the three tribal community members who were honoured for their contributions at the event. Poet Renu Kumar, anthropologist Subrahmanya Naidu, and documentary producer Aneez K. Mappila were honoured for their research work and contributions towards the welfare of the community.

Museum as an experience

Inaugurating the observance, KIRTADS Director P. Pugazhendi said a museum was not meant to be an exhibition alone. “It should be an experience for the visitor,” he said. Historian M.G.S. Narayanan chaired the inaugural function.
