Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that the State government will consider an increase in expatriates’ pension through the Pravasi Welfare Fund Board.

He was speaking after inaugurating the distribution of pension fund to eligible beneficiaries at Town Hall here on Monday.

Mr. Chandy said that the eligible age for pension would be increased from 55 to 60 at the earliest. A piece of legislation in this regard would be considered by the Kerala government as per the proposal of the Non-Resident Keralites Affairs Department, he said.

Referring to expatriates’ concern over the increasing air ticket charges, Mr. Chandy said the government would not go back on its plan to introduce Air Kerala as an effective combating measure. He made it clear that the Kerala government would communicate the anger of the expatriates’ community against the frequent air ticket charge revisions.

Minister for Non-Resident Keralites Affairs K.C. Joseph presided.

Minister for Panchayats and Social Justice M.K. Muneer handed over treatment aid to selected expatriates.
