Minister for Labour Shibu Baby John inaugurated the second centre of Kaushal Kendra at the Public Library at Mananchira here on Tuesday.

In his address, he said the kendra had been designed to equip the new generation for global competitions with the help of modern technology. “Parents should no longer decide what children should learn or what job to chose. The assessment and career guidance cell of the kendra will help each person to find their right aptitude,” he said.

The kendra houses a digital library with access to books from all over the world. A multi-skill room gives youngsters training to face interviews with the right skills. Language lab helps to improve skills in English, French, and German. The kendra is built at a cost of Rs.1 crore under the Kerala Academy for Skills and Excellence. Only the first phase of the kendra has been completed in Kozhikode. The kendra will organise short-term skill development courses and offer placement services. Minister for Panchayats M.K. Muneer, Mayor A.K. Premajam, District Collector N. Prashanth, and writers M.T. Vasudevan Nair and P. Valsala were present at the function.
