It was a man with only one leg who kidnapped ‘Vavachi’ in Kakkothikkavile Appoppanthadikal , the movie by Kamal released in 1988.
After a lot of struggles, she reunites with her family in her teenage. But the real picture, as far as missing children are concerned, is not as rosy as the movie portrays.
At a time when more and more children go missing each day and the scare of ‘black stickers’ loom over the heads of parents, the students of Institute of Communication and Journalism under Calicut Press Club have come together to initiate a protective shield around children.
Kakkothikkavile Nilavilikal , a solo play by ICJ student Paski, directed by P.C. Harish, secretary of Kerala Life, staged at S.K. Square on S.M. Street on Friday sent out a reminder that many like the one-legged kidnapper are roaming around.
Paski portrayed the character Vavachi running away from the man who kidnapped her and speaking out for many more like her who never met with their families after they were kidnapped. Through anecdotes she brings to life the sufferings of families that lost their little ones. “No one is going to come back if we continue to be silent,” she said and called for a united effort to protect the children.
“The police say that there was no need to panic about the black stickers. But 1,309 children have gone missing in Kerala over the last 10 years. We do have to be alert,” said Harish.
