Complaint filed by businessman
The Koyilandy Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Saturday remanded Saritha S. Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan, both accused in the solar panel scam, in judicial custody till August 31.
Both of them were produced before the court in connection with a case registered at the Elathur police on the charge of defrauding Vincent Simon of Mokavoor, Erhanikkal, of Rs.12 lakh. The accused would be lodged at the district jail.
The Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-III had remanded them in judicial custody till August 27 in another case registered against them for duping Abdul Majeed, owner of Associated Steels Yard, of Rs.42.70 lakh.
The accused had allegedly promised him a franchise in solar panel and windmill farm companies.
Initially, the investigators had sought police custody of the accused and Magistrate T. Pradeep granted it till Monday.
However, after collecting evidence from them, the police again produced them before the court in evening. Subsequently, they were remanded in judicial custody.
The case was that Saritha had approached the victim as Lakshmi Nair, zonal manager of Team Solar Company, while Biju introduced himself as K.B. Nair or Biju Nair. They collected Rs.12 lakh from Vincent in December 2011, the police said.
Mr. Vincent sought his money back as he got no information from the duo even after three months. The victim was given a post-dated cheque which bounced.
Saritha is an accused in at least 32 cases registered at various police stations in the State.
The police had produced her in at least six Magistrate courts.
Three cases had been registered against Saritha and Biju in Kozhikode district.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Thamarassery, Jaison K. Abraham was investigating the cases.
