The Malabar Gold and Diamonds Group has said that its proposed factory at Kakkancherry in Malappuram will be set up “in compliance with all legal and safety aspects. ”

A section of people are objecting to the construction of the factory alleging that dangerous chemicals from the factory would pollute the region. An orchestrated campaign by some businessmen with vested interests were behind the strike against the factory, a press release from the Group said on Thursday.

The factory would be constructed with the concept “zero waste, zero pollution.” The management is ready to explain the facilities for waste management at the factory.

A small quantity of water would be used in the factory. The waste would be released only after treatment. Modern facilities would be used for effluent treatment plant The recycled water would again be used at the industrial unit.

There was an allegation that cadmium and ruthenium were used in the manufacture of gold ornaments. The Bureau of Indian Standards had banned the use of these elements in the country from 2000. Therefore, they would not be used in the factory, the press release said.
