The first meeting in the district will be held at Thamarassery at 5.30 p.m.

November 07, 2014 01:49 pm | Updated 01:49 pm IST - Kozhikode:

The Janapaksha yatra led by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief V.M. Sudheeran will enter the district on Saturday. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, the Congress district president K.C. Abu said that the yatra would be given a rousing reception at the Wayanad-Kozhikode border around 5 p.m. The first meeting in the district would be held at Thamarassery at 5.30 p.m. Reception programmes will also be organised at Mukkam and Kunnamangalam on the same day, he said.

The yatra, Mr. Abu said, would be continued on Monday morning with an interactive session of Mr. Sudheeran with media persons over breakfast in Kozhikode after a day’s break on Sunday. Receptions will also be held at Balussry, Perambra, Kutiyadi, Nadapuram and Vadakara on the same day. After reception programmes in different places including Koyilandy, Kakkodi and Feroke, the yatra will end its Kozhikode leg on Tuesday with a public convention at Muthalakkulam ground at 5 p.m.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala will inaugurate the programme at Muthalakkulam. Senior party and UDF leaders including M.M. Hassan, P.K. Kunhalikkutty and M.P. Veerendrakumar will attend. Mr. Abu said that the yatra unlike many other yatras led by other Congress leaders in the past was not aimed at targeting any rival parties or groups. The party had decided to celebrate Nehru’s birthday on November 14 by organising a commemoration get-together at all party units across the State, he said.

Responding to a question about the recent incident of Yuvamorcha attack on a hotel in the city alleging immoral activities on its premises, Mr. Abu said the party had taken serious note of the fact that the incident of vandalism occurred immediately following the Congress party channel, Jai Hind, airing a news item on the hotel. “We have taken the issue up seriously with the concerned party leaders as well as the chairman of the channel. The party will investigate into a possible link between the attackers and the person behind the news,” he said.
