When the Janamaithri Community policing schemes experience a tight rope walk in almost all parts of the district, Nadapuram is scripting a success story in the turf.
With the support of the people and the police officials, the scheme here is largely benefiting the much ignored tribal and backward communities in the area.
The scheme now caters to a large number of tribespeople in the area by providing them frequent medical support with the help of government hospitals at Nadapuram and Kuttiyadi.
Patients from the tribal colonies are regularly taken to these hospitals to be given proper medication. The fund already granted to the police by State government and donations from the public are pooled together to execute the charitable treatment programmes.
Nadapuram Deputy Superintendent of Police Prajeesh Thottathil says the scheme has been running very successfully in the region with the magnanimous support of people from various walks of life. “We have come to the aid of tribal people in repairing their damaged houses in time and introducing special training programme for their children,” he adds.
As a token of appreciation to the efforts, the Janamaithri Kendram of the Rural police is coming up at Nadapuram, which will facilitate the implementation of more welfare programmes. According to senior police officers, the centre, constructed at a cost of Rs.5 lakh, will be ready for opening in January 2015.
Mr. Thottathil also shares that the Janamaithri scheme will shortly undertake a special counselling programme for women and a career guidance classes for youth. “We are currently conducting PSC coaching at Vayad for over 38 students, which is a much appreciated move on our parts,” he adds.
For the successful implementation of the scheme, the State government has already granted fund to the Rural police.
“For repairing damaged houses and facilitate better drinking water supply programmes, we have been granted around Rs.3 lakh for this fiscal,” adds the officials.
