Festivities marked the Praveshanolsavam in the district on Monday as schools reopened after the summer vacation welcoming thousands of newcomers into the world of knowledge.

The district-level inauguration of the event was held at Shivapuram Government Higher Secondary School, near Balussery. Purushan Kadalundy, MLA, emphasised the importance of protecting public education at any cost in the State. “This is a mission that we have to take up, and each and every individual should be part of it,” he said.

Elaborate arrangements had been made for the Praveshanolsavam at the Shivapuram school, as the event coincided with the 90th anniversary celebrations of the school. The festivities began with a cultural procession featuring educational floats, panchari melam , and other pageantries by children.

Payasam and sweets was distributed to the children and those who participated in the event. The newcomers were given a warm welcome by the teachers and their seniors. Special kits comprising school bag, notebooks, colour box, crayons, and an umbrella were gifted to each newcomer. “We had distributed the uniforms in advance to all the newcomers,” V.A. Latheef president of the Parent-Teachers Association (PTA) at the school, said.

District panchayat president K. Jameela presided over the function. Prasannakumari Kavulla Purayil, Deputy Director of Education welcomed the gathering. M.K. Raghavan, MP, who inaugurated the anniversary celebrations of the school, released the Navati Special Supplement.

Praveshanolsavam was conducted in almost all the aided and the government schools in the district on Monday.

While some schools such as BEM Lower Primary School had film stars as their chief guest, others such as the Malaparamba Aided Upper Primary School held a magic show.
