Imams council flays cut in housing quota

Opposes the Kerala government’s reported move to dilute 45 per cent reservation for Muslims in the Indira Awaz Yojana Housing scheme

August 25, 2013 04:08 pm | Updated 04:08 pm IST - Kozhikode:

The All India Imams Council took exception to the State government’s reported move to dilute 45 per cent reservation for Muslims in the Central government’s Indira Awaz Yojana Housing scheme and alleged that it was an eloquent example of the government’s anti-Muslim attitude.

Demanding a drastic change in the government attitude towards such issues, Abdurrahman Bakhavi, State general secretary of All India Imam’s Council, also warned in a statement on Saturday that the government’s attitude was fraught with danger as it would alienate Muslims from the mainstream. Mr. Bakhavi also alleged that there had been deliberate efforts to implicate Muslims in false cases and play down grave crimes involving members of other communities.
