“All fevers are not the same and it is wrong to assume that the district is in the grip of epidemics from the number of fever cases reported,” said honorary secretary of Indian Medical Association, Kozhikode wing, Dr. Ajit Bhaskar.
Announcing the setting up of a district-level work force on prevention and treatment of monsoon diseases, he said that there were very few proven cases of dengue fever or malaria reported in the district and that the IMA’s campaign over the last two years had a major role in preventing the spread of the disease.
IMA Kozhikode in association with the local residents associations had run a massive campaign educating the public on how to prevent fever deaths during monsoon months. Dr.Ajit said that it was not scrupulously possible to follow the government’s fever control guidelines, since the fever is different in each patient and the treatment should be more logical than methodical.
The work force to be formed for fighting the seasonal diseases and the symposium will be inaugurated by District Collector C. A.Latha at IMA Hall at 9.30 a.m. on Sunday. The programme is aimed at coordinating the efforts of the district level officials, hospitals and others in tackling monsoon diseases
