Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate ‘Vaibhav’, the cultural and entrepreneurship festival to be held by the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation Kudumbasree here on Thursday. The 10-day festival at Swapnanagari in the city also marks the 19th anniversary of the Kudumbasree Mission in the State.

The anniversary will be marked by honouring 19 eminent women from 19 different disciplines such as Vandana Siva (environment), Daya Bai (social work), Meenakshi Amma (martial arts), K. Vasuki (administration), Nandini Harinath (science), K. Hema (judiciary), Preeja Sreedhar (sports), K. Ajitha (social work), Khadeeja Mumtaz (literature), Nilambur Ayisha (theatre), Vaikom Vijayalakshmi (music), Kamalakshi (medicine), Surabhi Lakshmi (cinema), Deepa Nishanth (teaching), Sheethal Shyam (transgender activism), Beena Sahadevan (agriculture), Sreekala (media), Kabitha Mukhopadhyay (art) and Abida Rasheed (culinary science).
19 art forms
Besides, 19 art forms will be performed in a sequence on three stages at the venue. Kudumbasree Project Officer of the Corporation M.V. Ramsy Ismail said 12 of the art forms would be performed by Kudumbasree members while the rest would be performed by experts. The events include shingari melam, theyyam, vichitra veena, kalaripayattu, ghazal, oppana, Gujarati dance, thiruvathira, skits, Keralanatanam, traditional dances and folk songs.
The entrepreneurship festival will be held till September 9 and will feature exhibition stalls by Kudumbasree units from all over the State besides stalls by government agencies, private parties and a mini amusement park. A food festival will also be part of the fair. The release of Kudumbasree documentary and a history exhibition are part of the festival.
Health Minister K.K. Shylaja will open the entrepreneurship festival while Labour Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan will open the food festival. M.K. Raghavan, MP, will distribute ‘Ashraya kits’ for the destitute while M.P. Veerendrakumar, MP, will open the history exhibition. Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan will be the chief guest at the cultural festival in which Minister for Ports Kadannappally Ramachandran will release the documentary. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, Kathakali artist Chemancheri Kunhiraman Nair, musician Shweta Menon and writer Arya Gopi will be present on the occasion.
