A meeting of political leaders and elected representatives from the district on Saturday praised the ongoing efforts of the Health Department and the district administration to contain the Nipah virus infection that has so far claimed 12 lives from Kozhikode and Malappuram districts.

More steps

Health Minister K.K. Shylaja told the media that they had also offered support for future activities. Cleaning activities would be taken up in full swing ahead of the onset of monsoon. District-level officials and local bodies would be asked to take up campaigns to allay the fears of the people. A decision was taken to clean and chlorinate all the wells in schools in the district. Mosquito nets would be installed too. Facial masks and gloves would be made available to all the staff working in all government hospitals. The meeting was attended by Labour Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan, Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran, MLAs, MPs, and other elected representatives.
