The Kozhikode Rural police seized unaccounted money of Rs.49 lakh from two Maharashtra natives when they reached Vadakara on Monday.

Rajiv Jiddy, 40, and Arjun alias Prakash, 38 were arrested by the police following a tip-off received by Vadakara Assistant Superintendent of Police Yatish Chandra.

According to the police, the money was brought here for a jewellery owner at Villiyappilly. The carriers who were travelling by motorbike were stopped at Koottangarathu near Villiyappilly.

The police said it was Jiddy who brought the money from Maharashtra by train and later went along with Prakash to the jewellery owner.

The currency bundles were found hidden inside the jackets of the duo and the side box of the two-wheeler.

Both of them were questioned by Income Tax officials. The seized amount was also handed over to the department.
