The Indian Union Muslim League observed a dawn-to-dusk hartal at Perambra town in the district on Thursday in protest against the attack on its party office and its adjoining shops allegedly by activists of the Students Federation of India on Wednesday.
Shops and commercial establishments remained closed in town.
The hartal was observed from Kakkad mosque to Kallod LIC junction. A police team led by Perambra Circle Inspector V.V. Latheesh camped in the area to check any untoward incident.
The IUML office came under attack during a march taken out by the SFI activists in Perambra town in protest against the assault on one of its workers earlier. Now the situation was under control, Mr. Latheesh said.
