‘GST being used to fleece restaurant-goers’

September 14, 2017 08:08 pm | Updated 08:08 pm IST - Kozhikode

The Consumer Protection Committee has alleged that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) has come in handy for restaurants and other businesses to exploit the consumers.

The committee, which held a protest rally in the city on Thursday, said that though the GST was meant to have a uniform tax on all goods and services, in reality, it was being used to charge the consumers extra.

The committee urged the authorities to take immediate steps to pass on the GST benefits to the consumers, particularly restaurant-goers. It also wanted the Centre to back off from the move to drop the subsidy on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
