Eighty nature lovers had an exciting journey to Agasthyamala in the Peruvannamuzhi reserve forest area over three days as part of a ‘Green Pilgrimage’ under the aegis of the Kozhikode chapter of the Green Community, a platform for environmental activists and organisations in the State.

The pilgrimage saw a group of environmental activists, students and others trekking around 25 km to Agasthyamala and nearby points such as Kuwait Mala and the Seethappara falls. The journey that started from Kuttiady on November 29 concluded on December 2.

Besides the love of nature, the trip served a message that surpassed all religious restrictions as the priest Padmanbhan and authorities of Sree Uma Maheshwara temple at Agasthyamala played gracious hosts to the group that calls themselves ‘Greeners’. Tribal chief Maniyan and Trekking institute trainer Surjith were the guides.

The annual general body meeting of the Green Community held on the temple premises saw the birth of ‘Youth Green Community’ to ensure the involvement of youngsters in environmental activities. As a first step, SAVE (Students’ Army for Vivid Environment), a project being implemented in the Vadakara Educational District, will be introduced all over the State under the aegis of the Youth Green Community. The first summit of the new forum will be held in February. The trip was led by chief coordinator T. Shobheendran, general convener Shoukath Ali Eroth, and Kozhikode chapter convener Sandeep K.M.
