Graft: former health official gets 2-year RI

The Kozhikode Vigilance Inquiry Commissioner and Special Judge on Monday sentenced a former health inspector to two years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs 20,000 in connection with a bribery case registered in 2005.

Special judge V. Prakash found A. Balagopalan, 63, of Shoranur, Palakkad, guilty of demanding and taking a bribe from Abdul Samad of Edappal for issuing a birth certificate for his relative’s son.

According to the prosecution, the accusedhad demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 from Mr. Samad.
