Graft cases against Kozhikode Mayor politically motivated: LDF

December 27, 2014 09:25 am | Updated November 16, 2021 04:49 pm IST - Kozhikode:

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) council party of the Kozhikode Corporation has termed the Vigilance cases registered against the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Corporation as politically-motivated.

At a meeting headed by councillor Anitha Rajan, the council party said the cases were registered based on complaints by the Azhimathi Virudha Janakeeya Munnani (an anti-corruption forum) without going through the relevant sections in the Kerala Municipality Act as well as other government orders.

As per the Municipality Act of 1994, all the power rests on the councils and the standing committees while Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Standing Committee chairpersons had no individual power.
