Journalists present a memento to freedom fighter K. Madhavan at his residence at Nellikkattu in Kasaragod.

K. Madhvan, the lone surviving member who took part in the historic 1930 Salt Satyagraha and the first Guruvayur Satyagraha a year later, will turn 100 on Tuesday.

Fondly called K. Madhavettan by his admirers, the freedom fighter vividly remembers his contemporaries. Local journalists here, under the aegis of Press Forum, honoured Madhavettan at his residence at Nellikkattu on the eve of his 100th birthday. A local club will arrange a feast for around 2,500 persons on his birthday. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the year-long centenary celebrations here on Tuesday and honour the Gandhian-Communist who later pioneered a series of peasant movements in north Kerala. A host of dignitaries from various walks of life is expected to take part in the function scheduled at the Vyapara Bhavan auditorium here at 9.30 a.m.
