Free coaching in martial arts for girls

March 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - Kozhikode:

The Excise Department in association with a team of professional trainers will launch a two-month-long martial arts coaching camp for girl students hailing from the coastal areas of Kozhikode next week. Champions in various international martial arts competitions will handle the sessions at the camp.

According to excise officials, the programme is part of the department’s continuing field activities and interventions against drug abuse and alcoholism among teenagers. The presence of international champions will definitely make the camp special and fuel participants’ spirit, they feel.

The trainers were selected taking into account their previous contributions in fighting drug abuse and anti-social tendencies among the youth. The trainers have formed a special group, Ex-Force, to support the department’s campaigns against substance abuse in the coastal areas.

All the basic self-defence techniques will be imparted free of cost to the learners. Schools in the city may also send their girl students to the camp, said a coordinator of the programme.
