Four new underpasses and a foot overbridge are likely to be included in the alignment of the proposed four-laning of a 28-km stretch in the Kozhikode Bypass corridor from Vengalam to Idimuzhikkal.

The four underpasses proposed are at Ambalapadi, Mokavoor, Vayalkkara and Kadathumpara and the foot overbridge at Kudalnadakkavil. M.K. Raghavan, MP, had recently petitioned Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on this.

The projects had earlier been excluded from the detailed project report when tenders were called for. “Work is going on now on an elevated highway on National Highway 66,” Mr. Raghavan said.

Feedback Infra, with its headquarters in Gurgaon, has submitted a project report to the NHAI to develop the Kozhikode Bypass into a six-lane carriageway.

A proposal to widen the two-lane highway of Kozhikode Bypass is already in place. Land required to develop the corridor into a width of 45 metres has already been acquired.

Suggestions have also been made to construct seven overbridges, six underpasses and service roads for the project. The estimate has been pegged at ₹1,600 crore.

A fresh alignment has been made to construct overbridges, especially at Ramanattukara, Thondayad, Pooladikunnu and Vengalam junctions.

The Centre and the State governments should take the final decision.

As of now, the Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) is constructing two flyovers at Ramanattukara and Thondayad on the Kozhikode Bypass.

Three bridges and service roads have been proposed at Neelithodu near Ramanattukara. The project also includes the construction of new bridges, including two across the Korapuzha and Purakkateri rivers, and two more flyovers at Ramanattukara and Thondayad junctions.
