With the death of a 55-year-old man in Mokeri due to suspected leptospirosis, the number of fever deaths in Kozhikode district this year has touched 16. The deceased has been identified as Kunnummal Kuniyil Asokan from Kuttiady.
A total of 1,832 cases of viral fever have been reported from the district on Monday. There were 105 suspected cases of dengue. Three cases have been confirmed. There was one confirmed case of leptospirosis, and two suspected cases.
An expert committee meeting chaired by Director of Health Services R.L. Saritha was held at the Government Medical College here as part of the efforts to strengthen preventive measures. District Medical Officer (DMO) Asha Devi and heads of various departments in the medical college took part in the meeting.
The DMO said the spread of fever had been contained in a few wards in Koorachundu and Nanmanda panchayats. “As a result of the precautionary measures and vector control activities, we could prevent the spread of the fever to other wards,” she claimed.
