A comment posted by a young woman lawyer on her Facebook page has landed her in trouble with the Kozhikode Bar Association suspending her for a month.

Anima Muyarathu, a junior lawyer, has been suspended for a month from the bar association after she failed to give a satisfactory reply to the show cause notice served on her by the association. She had posted comments reportedly trying to defame her colleagues and put them in bad light before the public.

The association office-bearers said that they had served two show cause notices on the junior lawyer within a period of three months.

But she had given no satisfactory replies to these notices. She had made comments on her Facebook page on October 25, 2013 regarding the attitude of her colleagues towards her.

Anima had recently graduated from the Kozhikode Government Law College at Vellimadukunnu here. She began practicing in Kozhikode five months ago.

However, many women lawyers have expressed their protest against the action of the bar association. They felt that such an action amounted to infringing the right of freedom of expression. The lawyer was unavailable for comments.
