The Excise Department has geared up to check the smuggling of spurious liquor, flow of contraband liquor from other States and peddling of drugs during the Onam season. A control room at the Excise Divisional Office and a Striking Force has begun functioning round-the-clock. The Departments of Police, Excise, Revenue, Sales Tax and Forests would jointly conduct patrol during the night, a press release said here on Tuesday.
Checks would be intensified with the participation of the public. The public may inform Excise officials about the selling of illegal liquor. The identity of the informants would be kept confidential. They would also be offered gifts for providing information on drug peddlers and smuggling of liquor from Mahe, it said.
