The Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, Bengaluru, has authorised the running of trains with electric engine, in the newly electrified Shoranur – Kozhikode section till Kallayi station here.

Kozhikode railway station has been excluded as of now. The running of electric trains up to Kozhikode station, requires the ratification of Railway Board with regard to the height of Road overbridge at the northern end of Kozhikode Railway Station, a release said here on Wednesday.

A high-level team led by S. K. Mittal,  Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, Bengaluru, had inspected the newly electrified 84-km section between Shoranur and Kozhikode on Monday.

The release said that the Railway Board had already been approached for the same, through proper channel. However, the public and passengers have been cautioned against coming into contact with any electrical equipment on top of electric posts, including overhead live wires. The overhead electric cable is charged with 25,000 volts of electric power. The public should be aware that electrocution is a certainty even in 3-metres proximity with live wire.
