Eight persons submitted their nomination papers for the Assembly polls on Tuesday. As of now, 35 persons have submitted their nominations for the 13 Assembly segments in the district.
Kannathil Jameela, former president of Kozhikode district panchayat, submitted two sets of nomination papers in the Kozhikode North constituency. She will be dummy candidate of the CPI (M) in the segment. Already the party official nominee and sitting legislator A. Pradeepkumar had submitted his nomination papers.
However, an official release said Mr. Pradeepkumar and Minister for Social Justice M.K. Muneer, who had submitted his nominations on Monday, had filed another set of nominations as well.
The others who filed their nominations are Abdul Hammed - SDPI and K. Balakrishnan - Janata Dal ( Secular) [Vadakara] ; Jennifer - SUCI (Communist) [Kozhikode North] ; P.K. Zakkariya - Welfare Party of India [Koduvally] ; Raju and P.K. Chacko Purayidam - Independents (Thiruvambadi).
The filing of nominations began on Friday. Nominations will be accepted till April 29. The scrutiny of nominations will be held on April 30. The last date to withdraw nominations is May 2.
Model code violation
The flying squads of the Election Commission have intensified checking of vehicles. Already the squads have seized unaccounted money of over Rs. 1 crore being transported in vehicles from various parts in the district.
Most of the seizures from the vehicles revealed that the money had been transported without appropriate documents, which was in violation of the model code of conduct for the State Assembly polls.
