The City Corporation has been authorised to spend up to Rs.25 lakh to tackle the drought situation.

Municipalities can spend up to Rs.10 lakh and each grama panchayat Rs.5 lakh.

The decision was announced by Minister for Panchayats and Social Welfare M.K. Muneer at a meeting convened at the District Colletcorate here on Friday to take stock of the drought situation in the district.

The funds could be spent from general purpose grant and non-road grant till June 30, but approval should be sought at the next meeting of the grama sabha. The Minister issued directions to ensure that the Kerala State Electricity Board timed the power restrictions in such a way that they did not affect Kerala Water Authority’s water supply schemes. MLAs P.T.A. Rahim, E.K. Vijayan, C. Moieenkutty, and Purushan Kadalundi; district panchayat president Kanathil Jameela; and District Collector K.V. Mohankumar were present.
