April 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - KOZHIKODE:

The All Kerala Fish Merchants Association will take out a march to the Secretariat on April 28 in protest against the recommendations of the Meenakumari Commission report

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, the association leaders said fish traders and workers across the State will observe a hartal in the coastal regions on April 28 to express solidarity with the protest.

The association had launched a State-wide yatra from Kasaragod on April 19 to campaign against the report.

The yatra will reach the capital city on April 27, said M.P. Abdul Latheef, State executive committee member of the association.

“Several organisations and trade unions working for the welfare of the fishing community and development of the fishing sector will join the protest,” said Mr. Latheef.

The association leaders said their main demands included rejecting the Meenakumari Commission report and withdrawal of the ban on shark fins export from the country.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will inaugurate the march. — Staff Reporter
