A ‘fire’ at the office of Kozhikode Corporation Health Inspector at the mofussil bus stand on Tuesday afternoon created panic among the public.
The loud sirens of the fire engine and ambulances added to the chaos.
But, anxiety gave way to relief as soon as they came to know that it was only part of a drill performed under the aegis of the District Disaster Management Authority to evaluate the coordination of disaster management activities as well as the effectiveness of the fire control system. The drill conducted as per the directions of the State Disaster Control Authority was also intended to create awareness among the public about escaping from fire mishaps in busy cities.
The activity was carried out in coordination with the Fire and Rescue Services Department, Police, Health Wing, KSEB and Baby Memorial Hospital.
District Collector U.V. Jose, who is also the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, led the drill.
