District Collector C.A. Latha has said it is the right of a woman to live in a family atmosphere without domestic violence.
She was inaugurating a workshop on Prevention of Domestic Violence Act at the Collectorate conference hall here on Thursday.
The District Collector said provisions of the Act empowered the woman to seek justice against domestic violence. The Act, which came into force recently, had great significance for women.
Women who were facing physical and mental torture from male members in their households could obtain legal redress from various quarters. Victims of domestic violence could approach the Protection Officer, Service Protection Centres, and Magistrate of local courts under the provisions of the Act. The workshop was jointly organised by the Department of Social Justice and Social Welfare Board.
The Social Welfare Board chairperson Kamarunnisa Anwar presided over the inaugural session. Board member Bindu Krishna, and others participated.
