District Medical Officer P.K. Mohanan has issued a public alert against the spread of dengue fever, as the disease has been reported from different parts of the city as well as the suburbs.
He requested cooperation from the public in tackling the situation, as the disease carrying Aedes mosquitoes tend to multiply in stagnant fresh water.
In a press release issued here on Tuesday, the DMO urged people to keep utensils, trays etc in the houses clean and dry once in a week.
Water pots and tanks should be kept closed to ward off mosquitoes. Flooding should be avoided in terraces and sun shades. The coconut shells used for rubber tapping should be kept turned down when they are not used for tapping. Observe dry day in schools on Fridays, Saturdays in public places and offices and Sundays in houses, the DMO added.
