DDC recommends State takeover of Malapparamba school

The 139-year-old school was demolished, allegedly by the management committee, on April 10 midnight.

The District Development Committee (DDC) has recommended the State government to take over the AUP School, Malapparamba.

At a meeting of the DDC here on Saturday, A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, moved a resolution saying that it was necessary to prevent the manager from regaining control of the school.

The 139-year-old school was demolished, allegedly by the management committee, on April 10 midnight. There was a huge outcry from all quarters to save the school. The Assistant Educational Officer is presently in charge of the school, which was rebuilt by the local people who raised funds for it.

District Collector C.A. Latha has ordered the Deputy Director of Education to supply midday meals at the school.

C. Moyinkutty, MLA, presented a resolution demanding immediate compensation to plantain farmers who suffered losses in rain.

Tourism project

K. Dasan, MLA, moved a resolution demanding that the historical and heritage pilgrimage centres in and around Koyilandy be linked through a tourism project. He pointed out that the Kappad-Kottakkal-Kollam Parappalli-Panthalayani spices route and Thikkodi beach had great tourism potential.

The MLA demanded that the census should be made foolproof by including those who were excluded from the caste census.

He also demanded doubling of the compensation for people affected by rain. He said that work on the Chittarikkadavu project should be sanctioned to find a permanent solution to the drinking water problem faced by Koyilnady town.

Waste water

Purushan Kadalundi, MLA, demanded immediate steps to prevent the flow of waste water from drains on the Balussery- Kozhikode Road that posed serious health hazards and caused traffic jams.

He demanded that repair works be started on the culverts on the Balussery- Koorachund Road along with road works.

Shortage of drugs

E.K. Vijayan, MLA, pointed out that even as fever was spreading in Maruthonkara, there wasn’t enough medicine stocks at the Vadakara taluk hospital.

Moyan Kolakkadan, representative of M.I. Shanavas, MP, demanded measures to make water available to Kodiyathur, Karasseri, Mukkam, Chathamangalam and Mavoor panchayats from the Water Authority plant at Koolimadu.
