The city is expected to attract big information technology (IT) investments with works on the government-owned Cyberpark fast progressing and the construction work on the UL Cyberpark’s IT building getting over.

Several companies, including UST Global, IBS, and Ernst and Young have evinced interest in establishing their facilities at the Cyberpark. This is third major IT facility established by the State government under the hub-and-spoke infrastructure model, after the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram and Infopark in Kochi.

The construction of the park’s first building, with three lakh sq ft workspace, is almost complete and will be ready by the end of 2015. The building will have one lakh sq ft of plug-and-play facility and two lakh sq ft of warm shell space for companies.

Once fully operational as per the master plan, the park is expected to create 25,000 jobs. The hub-and-spoke model envisions massive IT complexes in the State’s three major cities, and each of these administering several satellite centres. This also ensures that the IT infrastructure is effectively spread across the State.

The UL Cyberpark, promoted by the Uralungal Cooperative Society, is ready with the first building, a green initiative certified by LEED, a green building certification programme. The park is being developed as an IT and ITES Special Economic Zone.

Boost for IT sector

Minister for IT and Industries P.K. Kunhalikutty says, “with the Cyberpark at Kozhikode becoming operational, we expect to double the growth of the IT sector in the State.”

He says the State government will extend all support for the development of IT infrastructure and Kozhikode will soon emerge as a key IT investment destination on par with Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.

The park is designed to transform the industrial landscape of Kozhikode as well as north Kerala. The first building is expected to be business ready by end of this year and will generate 2,700 jobs when the first phase becomes fully functional by March 2016.

With the aim of attracting major players in the IT industry, the Cyberpark conducted a roadshow in Bangalore under the aegis of NASSCOM.
