The Crime Branch on Friday arrested Perod Abdurahiman Saqafi, one of the senior administrative body members of the Parakkadavu Darul Huda English Medium School, on the charge of making a defamatory speech against a sexual assault victim, who is a minor, of the school.

The arrest was recorded after an inquiry lasting many weeks.

Though the police had charged him under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice Act, the arrest was delayed as the case was recently handed over to the Crime Branch.

Mr. Saqafi was caught on record making an abusive remark about the girl and her family on November 11. His statement had come when the police were trying to nab two students suspected of the crime. A minor girl was sexually abused allegedly by some senior students on October 30.

The case was handed over to the Crime Branch as the school management expressed dissatisfaction over the inquiry by the local police.
