Income Tax Commissioner P.N. Devadas inaugurated a ‘Crafts Bazaar’ organised by Kerala State Handicrafts Development Corporation along with Commissionerate for the Development of Handicrafts, government of India, in Kozhikode on Wednesday.
The bazaar features a variety of handicraft and handloom products from all over the country, including Jaipur cotton bed sheets, wood works from Andhra, leather bags from Rajasthan; marble works from Agra; and traditional Kerala handicrafts such as Aranmula mirrors and Panchaloha statues. Traditional Kashmiri shawls and embroidered dress materials, hand-embroidered home furnishings, handcrafted jewellery, and beaded bags, are also part of the display.
Artificial flowers made of arecanut leaves, bamboo flower vases, coconut-husk products, coir products, and coconut-shell artefacts are an added attraction. The bazaar is being organised to promote local artists and craftsmen without the interference of middle men. Around 100 recognised craftsmen are taking part in the fair that will continue till March 28.
