The city’s shadow police wing, with a six-member team, has succeeded in exposing 190 narcotic cases since the beginning of this year, and arrested many of the key players in the illegal trade.
A major share of the seizure during the term comprised ganja and tranquilliser drugs brought here from various States for supply among regular clients and students.
Over 35 kg of ganja and 2,000 strips of tranquiliser drugs were seized during the term by the six-member squad led by Senior Civil Police Officer K.K. Suresh, under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner (Narcotic) C. Aravindakshan.
Mr. Suresh told The Hindu here on Wednesday that the squad was able to trace nearly 20 cases every month based on secret information. At present, police officers from the Armed Reserve camp and local police stations were cooperating with the squad’s operation, he said.
He said the team would soon release a short film Nerkazhcha to create awareness among students of drug abuse. “We have completed the work, and it will be released next week,” he said.
