The Fisheries Department opened a special control room at Beypore on Thursday in view of the threats posed by cyclone Ockhi and the incessant downpour that hit the southern parts of Kerala. The control room with the helpline number, 04952- 414074, will be available round the clock. The email address, adfbeypore@gmail.com, too can be used for communicating emergency messages.

The Revenue Department opened separate control rooms in all the taluk offices in the district for managing emergency situations. Officials heading the Health Department, fire force, the police and the Kerala State Electricity Board were asked to stay alert.

Fisheries Department officials said they had already alerted fishers to come back to the coast and temporarily stop fishing activities on the coastline. Entry of tourists to the shoreline too would be restricted for security reasons, they said.
