A group of Congress activists led by KPCC general secretary N. Subramanian on Friday gheraoed the Government Medical College Principal C. Ravindran asking him to apologise and withdraw the police complaint he had filed against them.

Dr. Ravindran on Thursday had filed a complaint with the City Police Commissioner and the District Collector against a group of Congress activists including Mr. Subramanian, who had allegedly threatened to attack him if he was not ready to take back a Hospital Development Committee (HDC) member, who had been suspended by the hospital authorities on charges of corruption a few months ago.

The Congress workers shouting slogans against Dr. Ravindran restricted him to his chamber for a couple of hours starting from 10.30 a.m. The police had a tough time trying to remove the protesting Congress workers. The agitators dispersed at 1 a.m. after the police promised to solve the issue amicably.

In the meanwhile, the medical students and college staff members, who thronged the area declaring their support to the principal, booed the Congress workers when they came out of the Principal’s chamber.

Dr. Ravindran told The Hindu that there was no need for him to withdraw the complaint or to apologise to anyone. Meanwhile the Medical College Police have registered a case against Congress workers for threatening to assault Dr. Ravindran. The investigation is on, said the police.
