Concern over drinking water project delay

January 31, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 23, 2016 04:11 am IST - Kozhikode:

The people’s representatives who attended the District Development Committee meeting at the Collectorate here on Saturday expressed strong concern over the delay in completing the water supply network in 13 grama panchayats under the Japan-aided drinking water project.

Mayor V.K.C. Mammad Koya and District Panchayat president Babu Parassery alleged that the contractor who took over the work was acting irresponsible without completing the work as per the agreement made. “Of the 20 big water tanks built in 13 grama panchayats for the water supply requirements, only the one constructed at Chelannur is so far functional. The water is still distributed using the old storage facilities in many of these panchayats,” they pointed out.

Purushan Kadalundi, MLA, who moved a resolution at the meeting citing the poor functioning of Balussery Taluk Hospital, said the hospital was reeling under acute shortage of medical staff even after its elevation from the status of a Community Health Centre.
